Hospitality Ventures Management Group (HVMG) Announces First Results of the Talent Acquisition Center of Excellence (TACOE) Initiative

ATLANTA – (COMMERCIAL THREAD) – Hospitality Ventures Management Group (HVMG), an Atlanta-based private hotel investment and management firm, today announced the first results of its Center of Excellence in Talent Acquisition (TACOE), a new strategic initiative designed to seek out talent at the establishment level and to support and accelerate the recruitment process of its hotels. This centralized effort was also created in part to remove some of HVMG’s CEO hiring and onboarding processes, given everything they need to manage and navigate now and for the foreseeable future.

“The Talent Acquisition Center of Excellence has relieved individual hotel teams of considerable stress and added value to our owners,” said Sue Sanders, HVMG EVP & CHRO. “The first results of the 120-day beta program have already exceeded expectations, finding and filling more than 400 hourly positions quickly. This number will increase as more and more HVMG hotels are integrated into the program. We not only searched directly for qualified candidates through many different channels, but we also reduced the time it takes to review applications, which speeded up the overall hiring process. In September 2021, we were above 80% of our pre-pandemic workforce. ”

Realizing that already overworked GMs were struggling to keep up with labor demands, HVMG assembled a dedicated team of Talent Acquisition Specialists (TAS) to focus solely on hotel staffing. Led by Director of Talent Excellence Sunny Larkin-Woody, the five-person team also includes Tabitha Claus, Emma Corona, Maya Jones and Julia Haushalter.

The new team achieves four main goals: freeing up limited property resources; simplify and streamline the hiring process; find and recruit new talent more efficiently; and provide a competitive and differentiating advantage to HVMG.

Along with the hiring and training of the four Talent Acquisition Specialists and launching TACOE across the portfolio, early results from the first 120 days of the program include:

  • 7.5 days – The average cycle time between the publication of an application and the hiring of the position
  • 31.9 days – The average cycle time between the time an application is completed and the time the position is hired
  • 404 filled positions
  • 1490 candidates presented to recruiters
  • 1,920 in-depth TAS interviews conducted
  • 4 299 applications examined

“What really matters is what GMs think about how TACOE is helping their sourcing situation,” Sanders continued.

“When we took over the Homewood suites to Mobile, we had virtually no room attendants and we were also understaffed at the front desk, so we didn’t have the staff to handle the things we had,” he said. said Michelle Davis, senior managing director, The HVMG Alabama Portfolio. “As a result, other managers and I were cleaning up to 30 rooms a day, which meant I didn’t have time to do a lot of recruiting. Without TACOE, we would still be in the same situation. I spent hours going through all the jobsites and planning and conducting interviews. Centralizing this process has saved me a lot of time every day. Likewise, if not more importantly, we have been able to fill several positions that would otherwise remain empty. ”

At Marriott Greensboro-High Point Airport, Managing Director Jim Ceh faced similar circumstances. “We have filled between 15 and 17 positions using TACOE since we started participating in July,” he noted. “Our managers are experts in operations and department management, not necessarily recruiting, so our talent acquisition specialist had a huge impact and really complimented our success. ”
