Marriott opens Edition property in Tampa

Marriott International has unveiled the latest hotel under its luxury lifestyle joint venture brand with Ian Schrager.

The property is located in Water Street Tampa, a $3.5 billion mixed-use development that Marriott says was “built around wellness, connectivity, walkability and sustainability.” , with “sparkling waterfront views, publicly accessible green spaces, top-notch restaurants and shopping, cultural attractions, entertainment venues, residences and offices”.

The 172-room, 38-residence Tampa Edition features a ninth-floor rooftop pool and the Azure at Edition restaurant, serving Mediterranean cuisine overseen by Michelin-starred chef John Fraser.

Other facilities include a lobby bar, Lilac gourmet restaurant, Market at Edition for coffees, pastries and al fresco dining, the Punch Room inspired gentleman’s club.

The Art Club Cabaret is modeled after Radio City Music Hall and will host performers under no less than 350 disco balls, while the hotel’s second floor and mezzanine feature private event space for 250 guests, as well as two studios and a conference room.

Wellness facilities include six treatment rooms and a relaxation area, while bedroom decor is understated, with light white oak, Rodney Smith photography, and custom furniture inspired by Jean-Michel Frank. There are also five bedrooms with a garden terrace on the third floor, as well as the eight-story Penthouse with an open-plan living and dining area.

Design features in the hotel’s public areas include a sculptural white marble staircase in the lobby, next to a large-scale stainless steel Anish Kapoor-inspired lilac orb art piece and a table custom designed travertine billiard table.

Edition Hotels was conceived as a joint venture between Marriott and American hotelier and entrepreneur Ian Schrager, with the opening of the first property in Waikiki in 2010.

There are currently 14 Edition hotels around the world, including London, New York, Barcelona, ​​Tokyo, Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Bodrum.

The brand’s most recent addition was the Madrid Edition, which opened in Plaza de Celenque in the capital’s Sol neighborhood in March this year.

The Tampa Edition opens in preview on September 20, ahead of a worldwide launch in October.
