Nagpur: The city police have decided to deploy a group of 2,500 men to ensure a smooth and peaceful New Year’s celebrations and to avoid any untoward incidents. Cops would keep an eye out for drunk driving, reckless driving, helmet-less driving and other traffic violations during the bandoblast.

According to the decision, teams from the Traffic Directorate and police station staff would dot major intersections in the city to detect and prosecute violations. The cops would maintain a zero tolerance policy towards anti-social elements. Police station staff, Crime Branch crews and traffic officers are said to be keeping close watch in public places, including hotels, restaurants and thoroughfares. The district administration has already banned New Years parties. However, hotels, restaurants, eateries, movie theaters and shopping malls are reportedly operating until “scheduled times.”

All overflights of the city, West High Court Road between Law College and Shankar Nagar Square, roads near Telangkhedi Lake, Hanuman Temple, Vayu Sena Nagar and surrounding areas would be closed to car traffic from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday .

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said on Thursday that parties would not be allowed in housing companies, private places and such places under the pretext of “reuniting with family, friends” on New Year’s Eve or until recently. directives issued by the state government. on Covid the appropriate behavior remains in effect.
