Staycation has become a new trend in the COVID era

The very first sector that has been hit hard by the global health crisis is the travel and tourism industry with global lockdowns and restrictive advisories. History has been sufficient proof of how pandemics have had a “direct and immediate” impact on hotel chains, travel aggregators, restaurants and modes of transportation. Tourists have canceled long-planned vacations, honeymoons and business trips. However, there was a silver lining. Those who postponed their trips before are now gradually turning to national travel options – “stays”.

The eponymous word was derived from “stay” and “vacation”. It’s a getaway that doesn’t actually include traveling to faraway places, but gives people various options to break free for a day or two to enjoy something new. A day’s agenda for a family or individual on vacation might include a stay at a resort / hotel within a few dozen or 100 km, a dinner at a new cafe, an art exhibition, a day in a local fest, or try out new adventure activities.

The concept of travel is constantly evolving. Lately the term has morphed to incorporate closer encounters – with locals seeking a break from their typical monotonous daily routine. Indulging in a vacation gives them the opportunity to take a well-deserved time off without paying a hefty sum for a getaway. In fact, according to data from Google Trends, searches for “stays” have increased by 10% over the years.

Here’s a closer look at how staycations have become a notable trend, especially in the days of COVID.

Home away from home

With the pandemic came an impromptu “work-from-home model” that resulted in busy schedules and longer working hours. People, especially those who “work from home” since the global health crisis took the world by storm, may need some time to be locked within the four walls of their homes. And a prolonged WFH scenario can lead to fever in the cabins. So there must be something for them to differentiate between work and home.

Taking breaks between jobs may not have as obvious and significant benefits as taking a real vacation. Ergo, a short break now seems more important than ever because even studies have shown that breaks prevent stress. While some people, due to severe travel limitations and safety concerns, have a good vacation at home, others prefer a nearby getaway. This is where concepts like staycations come to their aid.

According to numerous reports and studies, the WFH model is likely to continue even after the end of the Covid-19 crisis. Therefore, it is clear that millions of people, who could not travel due to restrictions and juggling between WFH and household responsibilities, can now easily afford to go on vacation without worrying about taking time off.

People can save their paid time off for another important occasion or emergency, and take advantage of a long weekend or even weekdays to enjoy their refreshing break. Getting rid of long travel times to and from a destination, hotel search and other parts and plots of it means people can enjoy the basic experience like kayaking, hiking, hiking, fishing trip or a simple boat ride in the nearby lake.

The pandemic has certainly not only transformed the way we work, but also the way people spend their vacations.

Records your zeros

Staycation is one of the amazing examples of saving money while making the most of your short stay. Therefore, many travelers go there blindly. Fluctuating flight costs and additional travel expenses, especially when small children or pets are present, often strain their budget.

Staying nearby means there is no compelling reason to book a flight, accommodation, or even a car rental. Travelers can easily opt for their choice of transportation mode and even cook their own meals if they want to save on food expenses for the day. Although this is a bit obvious, it is worth noting. Plus, for some people, the concept of international travel just doesn’t exist due to the expense involved.

Even with modest flights and extraordinarily low hotel rates, other travel-related costs drive up expenses. So rather than saving all year round for one expensive excursion, travelers are finding ways to take multiple rejuvenating getaways and enjoy them in a comparable way.

Can be rewarding

Individuals are usually so lost in the fervor of traveling abroad that they fail to remember that their own country is no less than a dream destination for many. Stays give people a chance to visit huge destinations they’ve never had the chance to discover, or unearth hidden gems in the most remote places. It is literally the perfect way to really “disconnect” from daily exercise and discover how to reconnect with family, relax, rejuvenate and master new skills.

In summary

Stays are the perfect choice for families as well as for people who don’t know how to spend their days off, trying to balance their worries about their finances and their anxiety about Covid-19, with their desire for fun and relaxation. . It is also the only best option for the economies affected by the crisis. Have a good trip
