Temple Gardens Hotel and Spa purchased by Peepeekisis Cree Nation

The Peepeekisis Cree Nation is now the official owner of the Temple Gardens Hotel and Spa in Moose Jaw.

The First Nation said it has been working on finalizing a deal to buy the downtown hotel for nearly a year. The sale was made official at midnight on September 1.

Peepeekisis manager Frank Deiter has confirmed that the sale will not affect the employment of current hotel and spa staff. The First Nation has hired a new management company specializing in hotel management.

Chief Deiter said at this time there are no plans to alter the building, including not changing the name.

“We won’t add anything indigenous to it at this time,” Deiter explained. “If we do, we will carefully plan this with the management team.”

Rob Knibbs, who works with Morris Interactive, said there were already plans underway for the hotel.

“We have very ambitious renovation plans for the property over the next year which will actually get off the ground very quickly,” Knibbs explained.

“There are jobs that are going to be created in this process where local people are going to be able to play a role in this renovation process.”

Temple Garden Hotel and Spa was built in 1996 and has 181 suites.

There are also plenty of on-site amenities, including a gym, restaurants, and a mineral pool.

Peepeekisis now owns the hotel, the mineral spa, three parking lots, the footbridge between the hotel and the Moose Jaw Casino and part of the building where the casino is located.

A handover of the keys will take place shortly.
