Three reasons muscle activation technique should be part of a fitness routine

Houstonian Club fitness professionals believe the convenience of providing training and recovery services in one location is an effective combination to help clients and members perform at peak levels.

MAT can benefit all ages and athletic abilities. It treats tightness, weakness and pain through the muscular system and increases athletic performance. It can also help shorten recovery time before or after surgery.

MAT is just one of the recovery services used at the Houstonian Club to restore symmetry, improve range of motion, and increase muscle strength.

Thanks to the MAT, I bridge the gap between recovery programs and the pursuit of sports activity. MAT works in conjunction with other disciplines, including physiotherapy, to help speed healing.

The high-quality sports recovery services, including physiotherapy, therapeutic massage, and Muscle Activation Technique (MAT) that professional athletes depend on, are available for people of any age or fitness level at the Houstonian Club. Houstonian Club fitness professionals believe the convenience of providing training and recovery services in one location is an effective combination to help clients and members perform at peak levels.

“With MAT, I bridge the gap between recovery programs and continued exercise,” says Joel Kupke, Certified MAT Specialist and Personal Trainer. “The MAT works in conjunction with other disciplines, including physiotherapy, to help speed healing.”

Kupke explains how anyone can benefit from the MAT and offers sessions ranging from 30 minutes to one hour for Houstonian Club members and the public.

Who is the ideal candidate for the MAT?
MAT can benefit all ages and athletic abilities. It treats tightness, weakness and pain through the muscular system and increases athletic performance. It can also help shorten recovery time before or after surgery.

What happens during a MAT session?
During Muscle Activation Technique sessions, several areas are examined to identify differences in range of motion and the location of tension and imbalance throughout the body. MAT uses a specific test for each muscle in the body to assess whether it has sufficient strength compared to the opposite side. If a muscle cannot function optimally, that muscle will have difficulty doing the corrective exercises that are asked of it, which will have the effect of reinforcing compensatory patterns.

After a muscle has been determined to be deficient, stimulation of specific points on the deficient muscle will “wake up” the deficient muscle allowing it to contract better. This allows the muscle to grow stronger through corrective exercises.

What are the benefits of MAT?
MAT improves daily functionality, stability, strength, flexibility and athletic performance. It also corrects wounds and helps healing after surgery. By treating muscle weakness, MAT restores the body’s normal alignment, thereby decreasing pain and reducing the risk of injury.
