Visitors ‘miss the magic’ at Disney parks, claim things need to come back

While thousands of Guests continue to visit the Disney Parks every day, there’s no denying that much has changed over the past few years.

This is partly due to the ongoing COVID_19 pandemic, as it has caused not only labor shortages, but also supply chain issues and more regulated safety procedures. Recently, Disney parks dropped their mask mandates, apparently trying to “get back to normal.”

However, there are aspects of the Disney parks that the “Disney magic” and visitors still lack. In a post on Reddit, a popular social media website, guests discussed the “magic” that Disney parks and resorts lack.

A guest mentioned the opening show that took place at Magic kIngdom. This show involved several Cast Members atop the station and welcoming Guests as they “dropped” the Park. Another mentioned how you can take advantage of the extra late-night magic hours in the parks. Sure, there are special times for guests to enjoy, but nothing like extra magic hours used to be.

A guest has spoken of how sad he is about Disney’s Magical Express service being cut. Disney’s Magical Express ended service from Orlando International Airport to Walt Disney World Resort hotels on January 1, 2022; however, the service continued to fly Disney Guests after their vacation ended to Orlando International Airport until January 10, 2022.

One user brought up the much-discussed Disney restoration plan, which hasn’t come back yet either. With the Disney Meal Plan, guests could pay for a certain amount of meals that included all drinks, a full meal, appetizers, and desserts. Customers could also splurge on different tiers of plans which could include snacks and other treats.

Unfortunately, this offer has been unavailable since 2020 due to the pandemic and its return has not been announced.

Another user, not joking, explained that he had missed an “offseason”. It should be pretty obvious how crowded the Disney parks have been over the past few months. Many cite crowd levels to pent-up demand from everyone stopping travel due to the pandemic. Others simply think that the Disney parks will always be more and more crowded.

To combat this, Disney Parks have launched their new Genie+ and Lightning Lane systems, which have been met with considerable controversy. Introduced in US parks last year, Disney Genie+ and Lightning Lane are paid systems that visitors can use to avoid long lines for rides and attractions.

Disney Genie+ and Lightning Lane launched last year to much criticism and frustration, leaving many guests feeling confused about the service. In theory, this paid service should improve the experience of visitors to the parks, but in practice it seemed like just an expensive route planner. These paid services allow guests to skip the line for a price, meaning Disney now has a financial incentive to have long lines. At Disney World, for $15.00 per day per guest, you can skip the long line by making a Lightning Lane reservation (new FastPass) and returning at that time.

It’s still unclear how effective Genie+ and Lightning Lane have been at Disney parks, but with all four Disney World parks repeatedly hitting capacity, we can only hope the system helps the guest experience and don’t hurt him.
