Walt Disney World’s focus on redesigning hotel rooms is a financial victory

Walt Disney World is gearing up for its 50th anniversary celebration this year and as the parks prepare to open new attractions and fireworks, two resorts are changing themes to incorporate Disney characters. At Disney’s Contemporary Resort Disney and Pixar’s characters The Incredibles are added to the rooms in the main building and in the garden wing. A few minutes by monorail from Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, the rooms are being renovated in Moana– themed rooms.

The multi-billion dollar renovation of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has been a huge undertaking. Disney has tasked its Imagineering and construction crews to completely redo the hotel’s main entrance, including the monorail station on the second floor, as well as each of the rooms that are not part of the Disney Vacation Club Villas. Renovations have been underway since fall 2020, and because of this, the resort has seen its reopening after the pandemic was repeatedly delayed between July 2020 and July 2021.

Disney’s Contemporary Resort has seen its fair share of upgrades over the years, but for the most part, the rooms and interior of the resort have remained the same since opening day. Each bedroom will feature newly renovated bathrooms and living spaces, as well as nods to The Incredibles like seeing their awesome costumes in the closet. This multibillion dollar renovation has already started and will be completed by the start of the 50th anniversary celebration on October 1, 2021.

Room is cooling off at both resorts after years of both rooms looking like they were when the resorts first opened in the 1970s. Fast forward to 2021, on the heels of Walt Disney’s 50th anniversary World, both resorts have incorporated beloved Disney movie characters into the overall design of the rooms. While this might not seem like a big deal for the average Disney fan who is just looking for a place near the parks to sleep at night, Disney fanatics can’t seem to get enough of the rooms that are subtle and not-so-claps. subtle eyes at Disney characters or movies and the company has noticed.

Because the rooms are newer and have more amenities than ever before, it’s likely that Disney will increase the cost of rooms from the already high cost of over $ 500 a night to something even higher. The renovations make staying at Walt Disney World more appealing to families, especially during the 50th anniversary. When families stay at a Disney hotel, they typically visit the parks on most days of their trip and have all of their meals at the parks or resorts. What kid wouldn’t want to dine in a themed room from two of this generation’s most famous Disney movies?

Parents will continue to pay hundreds of dollars a night just so their families can stay in a boutique hotel room. In fact, Disney already has a proof of concept with the princess-themed Royal Room at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside, where families can see fireflies light up a on the theme of the princess and the frog Aladdin’s headboard and magic carpet is on the floor.

With the 50th anniversary starting in just a few months, Disney has a big job to do to complete renovations to both hotels so anxious visitors can book a room a short monorail ride from Magic Kingdom Park. Rooms are already filling up at Walt Disney World and with the new Moana and The Incredibles-themed rooms will debut soon, bookings are likely to skyrocket, proving Disney’s argument that guests at their resort want more from Disney, not less, even if the experience costs more.
