When LaaS lighting, a company specializing in lighting as a service, was commissioned to rekindle the Gran Melia Hotel located in downtown Kuningan, Jakarta, they knew they were facing a big challenge and an opportunity: to modernize and digitize without any physical change at the iconic hotel known for its stunning architecture, timeless luxury with an avant-garde touch and passionate commitment to its Spanish heritage. LaaS, a recent partner of Xicato, turned to Xicato’s superior lighting and wireless control portfolio to provide dramatic lighting that would showcase the hotel’s architecture with complete control over dynamic lighting effects. Freed from rigid traditional hard-wired and centralized control systems, the Xicato Bluetooth Mesh controls along with the intelligent pilots of Xicato provided the flexibility and ease of installation necessary to restore the hotel to the grandeur that such a rich history and architecture deserved.
“Xicato provides wireless lighting control which is extremely beneficial for reigniting projects such as the Gran Melia Hotel Jakarta. Often the biggest obstacle to replacing lighting or adding new lighting is how best to install into an existing wiring configuration. Xicato solved this problem for us. – Robby Permana, director of LaaS
The challenge and the solution
the Gran Melia Jakarta had experienced problems related to the lack of planning of light levels based on occupancy. In addition, the hotel requested dramatic and changing lighting effects to wow guests from the moment they walked through the doors throughout their stay, proving a unique experience. However, the installation had several constraints that prevented the installation of systems with these characteristics typical of modern smart lighting.
The lighting control system was to offer hotel management the ability to impress their guests with impressive lighting and provide the adaptability and flexibility to be installed in the lighting and wiring environment. current. These demands brought them to Xicato, well known for its quality solutions in lighting and advanced controls. Xicato provided the technical solutions not only to meet the project specifications, but also to overcome these constraints.
One of the other challenges of the project was how to integrate a new lighting control panel and a new admin dashboard with the existing control system already in place. The solution has become relatively simple because one of the main differentiators of Xicato is that it is designed to be integrated with various third party applications and controls, in any operating system, through their open API. In this case, LaaS used Xtouch from Xicato in the Android console. The end result was that the Xicato controls are easily accessible by the hotel management team on their mobile devices.
Xicato controls make integration easy
LaaS has determined that Xicato’s Smart Gateway (XIG) with Open API and Bluetooth Mesh Wireless Controls, Xicato Intelligent Drivers (XID) and GRE Alpha SLD-DIM-XG4 – a third-party Bluetooth dimming module with Xicato Inside, together would constitute the best overall solution for the project. The scalability of Xicato’s Bluetooth mesh meant that not only could it meet the current needs of the facility, but also, since it is future-proof, it can be easily reconfigured and expanded as new needs arise. arise. In addition, Xicato wireless controls offered a competitive advantage through their seamless integration with third-party systems, providing flexibility for future expansion. The Gran Melia Jakarta now has a sophisticated and intelligent lighting and control environment that is a showcase for the hotel chain while offering new features such as ease of handling dynamic and changing lighting scenes, loads maximum luminosity in the same environment and energy savings with control and networked lighting.
